Berkeley-born singer, songwriter, and guitarist William Pulliam, who recorded under the name Darondo, released just three 45 RPM singles during his brief recording career. Ubiquity Records tracked him down seven years ago and issued a CD made up of five of his six sides and four other tunes from tapes Darondo had in his closet. And now, with Listen to My Song, we finally get to hear another batch of long-lost tracks.

Get the funk out of here, you haven't heard Darondo? Well, don't feel bad. With their first release in partnership with Ace Records UK, Omnivore is releasing the long-lost mid-'70s studio sessions from Darondo at last. In stores August 23, Listen To My Song: The Music City Sessions features two of Darondo's most well-known tracks — Didn't I and Listen To My Song — the LP adds eight previously unissued recordings taken from the same 1973-1974 sessions. The first 2,200 copies worldwide have been pressed on translucent brown vinyl. But wait, there's more! The expanded 16-track CD version features all of the above plus four more unreleased tracks from those sessions. Assembled in full cooperation with the artist, Listen To My Song: The Music City Sessions is a virtual treasure trove of indispensable street funk and soul from one of the most fascinating San Francisco Bay Area music legends.
