One Last Desperate Notion

the French position

in spite of it all
like a ghost
against the mirror
the distance is real
and the legions rekindled,
as you become the farthest point
of what you see
and what you might believe
the forest shutters
an angel takes the spirit,
in the watchful eye of the visitor
bending the circle straight
in the tough choice of the end
one that gives reasons subsided,
the others that understand
that walked the narrow paths
in the middle of the night
